Our group is primarily for those born from 1946 to 1964 and earlier. Come here to discuss the good and bad things about your age, retirement, benefit problems, and activities. And, maybe throw in a memory or two. If you're younger, you might learn where our generation is coming from. All are welcome.

I went to grade school in a 4-room school house in a country town in the middle of n where... There were 1 1/2 grades in each room.

Since my name was at the end of the alphabet I got to go to the upper grade's room. Like after 1st grade, 2nd grade was divided into two groups. The first group stayed with the 1st graders. I was in the second group ~ mine went to the 3rd grade. I think it was because of this that I always got good grades in school. Because when I would get all of my work done I would sit and listen to the higher grade.

Every year each whole room would put together one act for in the school pageant. It would take place in the school auditroium which was, of course, the gym. (The gym was also the place where they played Donkey Basketball with real, live Donkeys!!)

Needless to say ~ I grew up on a farm!

NDY that is an interesting concept on how the grade were placed. I can see the benefits to help the slower learners and the advanced.

For me K-5 grade was in the city schools with about 20 kids per room. Grade 6 we moved to the farm and I attended 6-8 grade in a one room school house. Believe me it was quite an adjustment. I recall my 6th grade had 4 classmates - 4 girls. The 7 & 8 grades was all boys and I think a total of 3 boys.
The teacher gave me the job to work with the K & 1st grade (4 kids) while they had their reading sessions.

My dad was active duty USAF so we moved ALOT! Mom said she sent me to private school (Catholic) for kindergarten and 1st grade because there was no public kindergarten in Texas when I turned 5...

I went into a brand new elementary school in the first grade and went through all 6 grades in it.

My Primary (as we call it) school years were spent in an old brick building, circa 1918. The teachers were strict, and from the age of 9 I was strapped with a leather strap, on the hand, for talking. How it did sting. My happiest school memories were of the playground where we played skipping, statues, bull rush, marbles, knuckle bones and so many more. I biked to school, sometimes picking up a friend on the way and off we would wobble with her on the seat at the back. My bike had a basket in the front and that is where my school-bag went.

In my home town of Little River Ks, they didn't have enough room for kindergarten so my KG was held in a teachers garage. We were just little kids so it didn't seem so bad. There were only 16 of us that started 1st grade together, 11 of us went all the way to graduation together.

I went to a one room school house beginning in my first grade. We lived in the country. They didn't build a consolidated school until the 5th grade,,,I would of preferred to stay in the one room school house,,,it was an awesome experience,,,
