I remember!
What did you pay to get into the movies? I remember it cost 12c for under twelve yrs of age and 25c for adults. We used to go to the Saturday afternoon movies because they always ran the serial movies that day...Zorro, Tarzan, - anyone remember any others?
Oh and we walked to the movies too!

It cost 15 cents here. When you turned 12 you got a student discount card that allowed you to pay a quarter. Otherwise, you had to pay the adult price of 50 cents. That card was a rite of passage and you were proud to be able to show it at the ticket booth. Flash Gordon was a popular serial. One theater had a kiddee matinee on Saturday mornings that was hosted by a local TV kids' personality. He performed with his puppet friend and introduced the movie, cartoon, and serial. There would also be a talent show or a yo-yo contest on stage. When the kids in the neighborhood got to a certain age(the youngest age was nine) our parents allowed us to ride our bicycles to the show. It was quite an adventure since it was 18 blocks away and took 30-45 minutes one way.

I remember...and I also remember they would usher you out as well as in if you made too much noise, etc. (not that I ever did ...hahaha.) Morning movies costs 25c for me and we also had a local kids' personality "Captain Kangaroo" most Saturday mornings to entertain us before the movie . His son went to my school, a few years older, so we also had him visit some of our school events too. I lived in the country and it took 25 minutes by car to get to the theatre...so I didn't get to go every Saturday. Mom did start doing her grocery shopping on Saturdays when I got older, so she could drop us off at the movie. The Tarzan and Shirley Temple movies were my favs. What a nice memory to start my day!

And the Drive-in Movies arrived and changed our world!

I didn't get to go to the movies until I was 13 which was in 1966. I was amazed at the big screen. I don't remember what it cost because a nice young man paid my way. We watched "The Ten Commandments" It was awesome on that big screen and I have never forgotten that first movie experience.

Yes, I do remember the ushers in the movies,,and I remember the tickets we use to pay a quarter for the Saturday morning matinee's ,,zzzjoy,,,I remember when the Ten Commandments came out and my Mother wouldn't allow me to go see it,,,she said I was so emotional that she thought it would disturb me,,,but later on it came on television and I got to see it then,,,,Now it is in my library of movies as it was one of my very favorites,,,I bet it was awesome on that screen,,
