I remember WLS growing up,,it was THE radio station and we carried the radio with the handle,,forget what they called them,,but it was a must to have then,,,and Dick Beyonde' was the DJ,,,he got thrown off the air cause he made the statement,,,"the girls skirts were getting so shirt they would need to powder to more cheeks and comb more hair",,,I didn't hear that one but,,,,,he was a fun DJ,, Look what some of these DJ's say today,,,,ewwwwwwwww

Hoping you will tell a few...........in Chicgo there was a very first tv show called Bandstand Matinee..................got to meet Sarah Vaugn..................and enter a dance contest.............................those were the days of the 45's................................

We had some good DJs here in Waco, but the big station to listen to was KLIF in Dallas. It was said that the owner invented the Top 40 Format although he wasn't mentioned in the PBS program yesterday. Those DJs were crazy and went non stop. The owner took the chairs out of the control room and raised the control console, tape decks, and turntables so they would be forced to stand up during their shift, saying they couldn't be upbeat sitting down. Every DJ wanted to work there.

My best RADIO memory is REVIVED every time I OPEN MY REFRIGERATOR DOOR ~ FIBBER MAGEE'S CLOSET + SOUND EFFECTs !!!!

PORKY CHEDWICK was our most FAMOUS DJ in Pittsburgh. He had a lot of SOUL music on WAMO!

Well that name IS familiar -- I didn't listen to the "country version of KBGO" all that much but I did some.

KBGO FM now is sixties-seventies-and-eighties and frankly, to me with three decades to choose from, they wind up playing a rather small set of songs over and over again. There is never a day you will NOT hear LOOKIN OUT MY BACK DOOR and ME AND BOBBY MCGEE -- sometimes twice a day

So KBGO has gone from pop to country to oldies rock

When I was a little kid growing up the only person who owned a radio for miles and miles was my uncle. It was shaped like a tomb stone, lol, and had some sort of fabric behind the openings in the front of it. My uncle would set it on the big dining table every Sat night and somehow hook it up to a car battery. All the neighbors for miles would come and we'd all listen to the Grand Old Oprey. It didnt end until midnight and we would stay over at my uncles until the next morning. I went to sleep many times listening to "You bake right, Uh Huh! with Martha White! Yes ma'am, Goodness Gracious, Goodness Live, its Martha White"

The DJ's did have alot of personality!In my part of the country,it was"WOLFMAN JACK".Loved to listen to him at night.When I was even younger and traveling overseas(Dad was USAF)the one radio show I never missed was on Sundat."The Lone Ranger".Great show.Great memories.

When I was a kid my sister (who was born in 1938) always listened to the radio in Brooklyn, NY. Don't know the stations, (I was born in 45), but I vaguely remember "The Shadow and Amos and Andy." Anyone remember those?? By time the 50's rolled around we got a humongous console TV and my parents never missed watching Lawrence Welk (ugh!) and Ed Sullivan
