White buck shoes, starched crinolines and chemise dresses. Wearing your cardigan sweater buttoned up the back. I saw a movie star wearing one that way last week!
But I also have to add: a blue serge jumper with pleats, worn with a long-sleeve white blouse, UGLY, UGLY shoes as part of my high school uniform.
(Do not know what a virgin pin is).....was it worn to impress the boys??
Got fun of for wearing anklets to Cotillion, I cried for days. I was only in 6th grade in the mid 60's
I say this BECAUSE in my town words uttered as commonplace slang are down right disgusting on this side of the Tracks .. & Well, 'Back in the Day' when I was in 7th grade circular jewelry pins in various styles from jewels to plain metals to wood were all known "in school" as Virgin pins.
At my High School, girls in the Senior High grades would wear their pins on the left if they were virgins and on the right if they were not! And, believe it or not - Some of the jocks ('questionable' guy athletes would wear them down their arm say 2 or 3 strewn pinned down their shirt sleeves like "conquests"!!)
Uh huh - I know what ur thinkin ... Well I wore mine in the middle like my other girl friends bec we said we weren't tellin !!
So where the teachers etc during all this ? IDK Are there High school teachers among you NOW that would make a big deal out of this? You tell me.
To us it was JUST a joke !! (So you see willowangel you were right - just kids actin stupid!)

And T-shirts?? No, no! They were ALL underwear then - WHO could imagine wearin underwear on the OUTSIDE of your clothes ?!!
I remember my mom buyin me a gorgeous 2 pc suit for "my coming of age" 12th birthday. It was pale shrimp pink with small white pin dots but IT was a sheath with a short bolero jacket and 'a cumberbund' !! What we girls called a ' tight skirt ' !!
When the boys in my click found out - They ribbed me somethin AWFUL about "wearin my Birthday-suit to School" - bec back then that's what they called bein NAKED ! Lol
