I could not find a group specifically for BDD so I've created one.
I've been suffering with it for years. My grandad spent most of my childhood warning me not to eat certain foods or too much food incase I got fat. He'd say that no boys would want me if I was fat. This lead to me skipping meals from an early age and being paranoid about my weight. He continued to comment on my weight which fuelled this fear of being big.
I put on a lot of weight a few years ago and then realised I was never fat as a child.. But I was fat now and it meant nobody would want me, or that's how I felt because of my grandad. I never spoke to anyone because I felt my opinion didn't matter because I was ugly. I started seeing colours in my skin that weren't there and then stopped being able to look in mirrors, see my role room or take pictures of myself. If I need an I.D photo I have to spend weeks building up the confidence to actually sit in a photo booth.
Ive started losing weight and my grandad comments on it. Laughing when I say I want to lose 4 stones because " there won't be anything left. You can't lose 4 stone". When other people comment on my weight loss I think they're lying to me but I thank them and smile but when my grandad comments positively on it I feel really angry/upset. I feel like it's all his fault anyway and now he's just mocking my hard work..
Sorry to ramble but does anyone else feel angry towards one or maybe a few people for triggering bdd or am I just being selfish?
