It indeed did turn dark. Actually the "darkness" moved in over Calvary before Jesus gave up His "spirit". It became dark from noon until three in the afternoon over "all" the land as Matthew tells us in the NIV. My NKJV says from the sixth hour to the ninth hour. Of course the "normal" length of a day was from six in the morning until approximately six in the afternoon which is how we come up with noon and three o'clock in some translations of the Word.

Rachel in Matthew 27: 45 - 55 it mentions nothing about the darkness. I always thought the moon covered the sun and all was dark, with thunder, lightening and earthquake.

I like this 'studying' ...We learn a lot and of course reading our Bibles too.

The veil that separated the Holy of Holies from the rest of the Temple tore in to two pieces and it wasnt a light thing it was I beleive if my memory serves me around a foot thick it was a wall of fabric precious , but we didnt need to be separated as Christ Made it possible for us to directly approach the throne of God.
