The study of the Feasts of the Lord is of importance because in Leviticus 23 they are referred to as "appointments with God", the keeping of the feasts are referred to as "Holy Convocations" which are therefore rehearsals of things that would at a later date occur... it's like going thru emergency drills in preparation for the "possibility" of an event or circumstance taking place. Since we know that the scriptures are written to be fulfilled, then we know that those drills are for things that will occur. When Yeshua (Jesus) was outside of Jerusalem weeping for her, His statement was "... because you did not know the hour of your visitation..."
Luke 19:44
And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.
The Feast of Passover was a foreshadowing that God would be providing the Perfect Lamb as a sacrifice for sin. The Feast of Firstfruits is a representation of His Resurrection. The Feast of Pentecost (Shavuot) is the giving of the Holy Spirit. These individually have great importance in understanding the plans that Our Heavenly Father has implemented. Between Passover and Pentecost (Shavuot), there is a commandment to count the "Omer", which means weeks... these amount to seven (7) weeks and then one (1)additional day is added to reach the Fiftieth day (50)... so why do this, what is the significance of what Our God is trying to teach us with this?
Consider Matthew 24:42 & 44
"Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come."
"Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh."
O.K., it is at God's discretion when things shall take place, there is enough evidence of past predictions and dating of events that have not coincided with biblical truth to have believers be cautious not to be dogmatic about these events. And so the following is provided with such understanding, that contained within the pages of scriptures are truths that are being revealed at "their appointed times", providing the following info. is intended to keep us "watching" as commanded by Our Lord.
The book of Daniel makes reference to 70 weeks, with the 70th or last week leading into the End of the Age. It is Daniel 12:11 that gives us the last portion of that week:
"And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days." Daniel 12:11
These 1290 days are the equivalent of three and a half (3.5) biblical years (composed of 360 days each).
When Jacob in the book of Genesis agrees with Laban to marrying whom he thought would be Rachael, the agreement was for Jacob to work seven (7) weeks, in this context it is a reference to seven (7) years.
Seven (7) weeks from Passover to Pentecost, could be a representation of Daniel's 70th week, which is also referenced in the book of Revelation as the time of Tribulation and found in Revelation 12:6
"And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days."
In counting the Omer, there is one (1) day added to make the fiftieth (50) day, consider Peters statement:
"But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." 2 Peter 3:8
That additional day after seven (7) sabbaths, which leads into that fiftieth (50) day may very well be a reference to the Millenial reign as it completes the number fiftie (50) which represents the Jubilee year, time of renewal, restoration, and return, and arrives after the seven (7) years of tribulation.
The prophetic nature of the book of Ruth and it's reading during this particular Feast of the Lord, adds the understanding that Naomi (Israel) gets restored back to her land, Boaz is the Kinsman Redeemer (Messiah ben David) who fulfills this covenant, and Ruth (Judeo-Christians) who because of her commitment to Naomi (Israel, Hebraic roots) is blessed with the marriage (Marriage Supper, Revelation 19:9) to the Kinsman Redeemer (Messiah).
Shavuot (Pentecost) also has agricultural importance which is symbolic, as referenced in the book of Ruth (2:23), the Barley and Wheat harvest. Yeshua (Jesus) makes reference to wheat harvesting in Matthew:
Matthew 13:30
"Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn."
and then there is...
Revelation 6:6
"And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine."
The time of the Great Tribulation is when the harvesting of the chosen is believed to take place, stay close to Our Lord, and Watch as He has commanded.
