Yes. But I also feel that if you get the comforts of a bed to lay your head, you should also wake in the morning to chores and work or complete education. Nothing should be free. If you do not want to clean up after being kept warm and cozy the night before, then you should not expect to be able to come back.

Well said, Tamehau. There should be some sort of payback, even if it is token busy-work such as picking up the grounds or litter/leaves along the block. Even a person in a wheelchair could polish doorknobs.

What I strongly disagree with is how many Christian-run shelters require people to forsake any prior religious affiliations and accept Jesus as their savior before giving any help to them. That goes hard on any non-Christians such as Jews, Hindus, Muslims, etc. Not very Christian behavior either, IMO. The only shelters here are run that way.

I've had conversations with some non-religious acquaintances about starting a secular shelter and they've been quite receptive up to the point of actually doing something about it. But the dream lives on.
