Scheduled for surgery on September 6. Will be flattening foot, cutting ligaments & bones & refusing them. 2 weeks in hard board, 6 weeks in plaster, 6 weeks in boots & hopefully will be able to walk better on it. Wont be 100% but better than it is.
Has anyone has similar surgery at all & what was the outcome?

No! I have personally not had that surgery. Looking at your surgery date, you should be 3 days post op now. How are you doing? How did the surgery go? Sorry it took so long for me to respond. I lost my father recently and having to deal with that,

Sorry for your loss, know what its lits like regardless of if you are close or not. Lost mine December 2005 which was double wammy as dx with ms oct that year.

I had the surgery & today is 1st time on line. Struggled with other issues like bladder infection & chest infection & reacted to oxycodone so off with fairies (Dr's term) they had to come up to me late at night.
On the good side I hope & starting to get better. Not allowed to weight bear for 7 more weeks on foot, will get plaster, boards & bandages off this Thursday & then plater to below knee. Going itn rehab when they find m a bed. It is very painful but not as bad as the start. Will keep updated when can. Thanks for your reply & take care of yourself too.

In Rehab now in a hospital 10 minutes from home which is much easier. I start doing rehab n the gym tomoroow. Still in some pain but better than before they have changed drug back to tramadol 100sr which suits me. No more osy anything or endone. Sucks as they were good but have bag affect on me now.
Sitting out of bed after shower every day, gradually building up tolerance to get it longer too.

Thank you for the updates! Thank you for your expression of sympathy over my loss. My dad and I were very close so it really hurts. :(

Your losing yours after your diagnosis with MS must certainly have been awful. The uncertainty of your disease process and the unknown future without your dad. Wow!

I am trusting that you are out of rehab and back home. How is it going? I know your seven weeks of non-weight bearing is not over yet so how are you getting around? Walker/crutches or wheelchair?

If your pain is manageable on the Tramadol, that is all that is important. You need to be comfortable enough to do your exercises.

I an still in rehab as can't go home probably till plaster off & able to weight bear as cant hop far. It will be a long 8 weeks from home. At least rehab is close to home so easier for hubby.

Have had a lot of ups & downs while here, latest being that had to have plaster cut off & bed rest for 4 days to check for dvt or compression (?) but neither of them. Its an infection so they have back slab & bandages back on. I am allowed out of bed tonight to hop & back to physio tomorrow.
All I can think of at moment. Been taking endone (morphine) for pain too as got lots worse.

Eight weeks in rehab!!! Oh no!!!

After my THR (total hip replacement) I had to go to rehab, my six days were bad enough especially on the heels of having been in the hospital five days. I was away from home for a total of eleven days and thought I would go crazy. Yuck!

I hope the infection is now under control and very happy that it was not a dvt or compression syndrome.

thanks, I am finally home after 9 weeks in hospital/rehab. I now have an infection on the top of the foot which is still spreading since last Thursday when the dressed it in hospital.
I went to local Dr & had it looked at on sunday & she dressed it & cleaned it then said to come back & see the nurse & her in 2 days. Went back today & now have to go daily. It is such a pain at the moment & just wish it would go away.

Oh dear...I am so sorry you got an infection. Please follow doctor's advise and do not overdo your activities.

One day at a time. You will eventually have this as a distant memory.

And the next issue is I have reacted to every oral antibiotic given to me with the runs & dry retching so now can't tae oral anti-biotics! Oh the joy - NOT. I had to phone & get Dr to call me back as couldn't get to morning appt (tied to toilet) so she fitted me in with the nurse in the afternoon for dressing & she would review it. It is still very red but not as weepy as it was. Still got daily dressings to change daily. Don't know what will happen on weekend with no nurses & they rotate in the clinic which Dr is on.

My my... it seems if it's not one thing, it's another. So do they plan on putting you in the hospital for IV antibiotics?

Well Thursday when I went in to see them the wound is finally starting to heal. No longer weeping etc Just very red & still sore. I can finally do the dressings & changes at home with the help of my shower help person. That is done every 2nd day so helps. Still on strong painkillers to try to control it.
IV anti biotics was going to be the next step if it didn't heal soon. Hopefully avoided all that. See foot specialist next Thursday so hopefully healed well by then. Will change it on the weekend too so it's not left for 3 days. Hubby will need to help me with that of course.
Can get sock on again so that means that swelling is going down too.

Diarrhea is not really considered an allergic reaction. It is more of a side effect. Unfortunately, it is a side effect of all antibiotics.

How did it work out over the weekend? How was your Thanksgiving celebration. Hopefully you were able to reflect on one thing for which you are thankful despite your horrific recovery.
