Anyone on here? Been on boot since beginning November & really struggling with pain getting worse.
Any help would be appreciated

You are doing the right thing. Make and stick with your appointment to see the foot and ankle specialist. Have you seen an orthopedic surgeon? Have you had an MRI of the foot?

As a wild shot, are you diabetic? Usually avn causes pain due to bone death. The area being visibly necrotic/gangrenous does not clinically with avn.

Post if you need anything further. Please let me know what the doctor said.

Thanks for replying. My appt ended up being with orthopedic registrar again so got to wait till 15 March to see the foot & ankle specialist/surgeon.
Now been told got compartmental something & some other thing today by pain clinic (much the same as sympathetic nerve dystrophy) so he has outlined some options like nerve blocks & mirror physiotherapy (which I don't think would work as left foot hurts too).
Will see what next Dr says I guess. In the meantime he added gabapentin300mg 2 times daily to my mix to try to control pain better. Hoping that eases the pain at least.

Any ideas would be appreciated. I am not diabetic but apparently at high risk as very overweight (have put on a lot recently.)

How did you get a diagnosis of AVN? Truthfully, it does sound more like RSD. As I said previously, AVN does not cause skin discoloration. I can offer some ideas but only after a clear diagnosis has been obtained. For now, continue your meds, keep your appointment and limit weight bearing activities.

Thanks for your reply. Toes have got their colour back but the foot is definately stuffed to put it mild.
I got the dx of avn because of all the x-rays, mri etc showing that the bones are collapsing due to steroids in past for ms & excema, asthma. Also there are tears or something in there too.
I also have severe osteo-arthritis, sympathetic nerve dystrophy in the foot.
Very frustrated as my appt with the foot & ankle specialist which was for tomorrow has been postponed for another month. Nothing I can do about it too which is even more frustrating.
The foot is now swelling every day even when using wheelchair constantly & it is very painful even with all the tablets that pain clinic have put me on.

Just quick update. Foot & ankle specialist said that because of the issues in the foot & the bones collapsing & no circulation. Anyway on waiting list for surgery for fusion of bones in foot that have collapsed & broken.
Will be in hospital for a few days then plaster for 6 weeks & boot again for 6 weeks. At least it will fix it & I can walk better.

How is everything going?

As I said above, now waiting surgery. In the meantime it is very painful to walk at all & just have to stay in boot & try & walk, which I do on outside of foot & toes don't touch ground either. Not happy with it but nothing I can do about it.

Hi, still waiting for surgery but foot has got a lot worse. It is swelling up every day, red in the main spot & a yucky brown over the top in like a stripe of foot. 2 toes near the big toe are wasting away & going brown colour. Podiatrist said that means the avn is getting worse?? Also it is a throbbing type pain all day & night which nothing is helping. I have to keep loosening the boot straps on the top of boot as foot swells everyday even when have used a wheelchair when out & a reclining chair with foot raised too. I just can;t win with it. On days when I do have to go to appts & use walker the foot is even worse that night.I am at the end of my tether for sure so as soon as see a pain Dr at that hospital group will be asking him to try to get it hurried up.
Guess just wanted to put it out there.

Again, as I have been dealing with personal losses of my own, I have not been online as much. I did see your other post listing your surgery date. Hope it all works out for you. Please keep in touch though it may take a while for me to get back to you. AVN truly stinks big time. :(
