I don't know how to tell my SO that I just need some time alone. It always triggers her dependency issues and an interrogation: what's wrong? are you feeling ok? is it something that I've done? when will I see you again?
Often I don't really know what my problem is until I have had a few quiet hours to think about it. It's enough to make a guy take up fishing/drinking. That's what my dad and her ex did, anyway, and I don't want to feel like I'm emulating either of them.
All I need once in awhile is some good excuse to get out of the house on my own for an evening. She hates sci-fi flicks, yet she will go with me if I go to see one. Locking myself in a room to meditate doesn't work -- she will come knocking after a half hour of separation. I've been thinking about starting night school. Then I could go do research at the library.

did you try to tell her why you need alone time. Maybe when she knows that after few hours or even a day alone you will be back she can calm down. Letting her know ahead of time that your alone time is all about your need and has nothing to do with her can make her to relax. It looks like she has an anxious attachment style and that is why she gets upset. Knowing ahead of time what you need may help.
