Arnold-Chiari malformation, sometimes referred to as 'Chiari malformation' or ACM, is a congenital anomaly of the brain. Arnold-Chiari Malformation II occurs in almost all children born with both spina bifida and hydrocephalus, but ACM I is typically seen in children and adults without spina bifida.

Very Frustrated

I went to the Harold F. Young neurosurgery center at MCV in Richmond, VA. I saw Katherine Holloway. It was an hours drive from home, not too awful. She said my Chiari was mild, no suggestions, that my slipped discs were like wrinkles "you can correct them with surgery but they are still wrinkles" or whatever she said, she said I had scolisis, and that everyone over the age of 14 has DDD. She recommended me to a pain management dr or rehab clinic to get spinal injections/ medication. She would do it herself but it's a bit too much to drive to Richmond all the time. Does anyone recommend another DR who will actually help me??

Oh I am so sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience. I know exactly how you feel. You just have to remember that the search for the right doctor can be time consuming and extremely frustrating; but when you find the right one it's completely worth it. When I moved to Washington a few years ago I had a neurologist tell me that I never needed surgery, chiari is extremely common and that if I have more headaches I should switch meds. But I myself know nothing of these doctors as I was seen in Oklahoma and Washington. Just hoping it might be of some help to you.

You are not alone!! Frustration has been a feeling I am working very hard to overcome..I believe the information I found on The Wisconsin CHIARI CENTER Web site{ www.wichiaricenter.org/ }a God sent in my opinion sharing explainable up to date information as to why we may need to become very proactive in overcoming the current obstacles in finding / hiring a Dr. who is up to date on CM. , However the site has been responsible for restoring my confidence and the information shared on this site explained so much as to why patients such as us understandably develop a confused and frustrated attitude ! I hope maybe be we can be friends,

ttrainercos, you posted a question here a few days ago and I've been wanting to come back and reply to it, just been in too much pain, but this morning, it felt important for me to come here and find you and reply!! But I can't find it, durn it!! I didn't think anyone had replied yet...
