when i wake up, i go to the computer room, look outside, have my cup of joe, lean back in my recliner, tell myself, its a wonderful day, might snooze for 30, or so, go get my dog sweety up, and just seeing her wag her tail, makes me smile!!!!!
then eat breakfast, more koe, shower, make my bed and plan my day!
i try not to give any negative thoughts a chance!!!!

Yep you're all right on. When I had horrible morning anxiety, I read that ALWAYS get up the minute you wake and get moving. And I've continued to do just that.
Of course, a lot of us would/do wake up and automatically thing " HOW AM I FEELING TODAY"... to heck with that. I get right up, start my day, and think positively. I also on the weekends turn on MAD TV while I'm working out.... LMAO What a great way to start my morning. In case any of you are wondering, it's on Comedy Central, I believe. Gesus does that show make me laugh !
My way of thinking these days : I got better things to do than riddle myself with worry ! I'm just NOT going to allow it to disrupt my life. I don't care, I'm living MY life.
only us with anxiety thinks this way.
others just get up and do what needs to be done without thinking it really through.
it's life, get over it is more the attitude.
morning person/night person - our minds turn it into something more when it's all just normal!
GEEESH.. GOT MY KIDS UP AT 5:00 AM.. HAD THEIR BREAKFAST TABLE SET THE NIGHT BEFORE.. 4 MORNINGS A WEEK WE HIT THE GYM FROM 5:45 TILL 8:15 AND THEN DROPPED THEM AT SCHOOL AND ON TO WORK I'D GO.. THROW OFF MY MOM HAT AT THE DOOR AND INTO WHATEVER THE DAY HELD FOR WORK.. I'D WORK LATE AND THEY WENT TO DANCE OR SWIMMING AND/OR OTHER PROGRAMS WE'D GET HOME FOR A LATE DINNER AND I'D HIT MY LAPTOP TO WORK ON DOCUMENTATION OR TESTING...
THE NEXT FEW YEARS I COMMUTED TO THE CITY TO A HIGH PROFILE.. HIGH STRESS.. ALWAYS 'ON' CAREER I LOVED...
WHO HAD TIME TO BE ANXIOUS... SOMETIMES I THINK THAT THERE ARE THINGS TO THE SAYINGS LIKE 'TOO MUCH TIME ON YOUR HANDS' ...
...I KNOW WE HATE TO HERE THAT WHEN WE ARE ANXIOUS.. BUT SOMETIMES I WONDER.

Trying to find the balance.
the thing that helps me the most in the morning is setting to the alarm to 645 to npr. 7am would do but I don't want to wake up to hard core news. at 'the 45' I get eccentric human interest stories, usually so interesting that they distract me immediately from any other thinking. Also npr just calms me down.
When I'm feeling a bit better in myself I wake up without all that stuff going on and it's a bit easier to have more control (or awareness might be a better way to describe it) of the thoughts. It's then easier to say 'hey what am I thinking? that's unkind/unfair or whatever on myself' and rationalise it a bit better. That's when I find distraction, as you mentioned(J), is good. It's almost like getting back to reality - actively 'doing' rather than continously thinking anxious thoughts....(argh!) I enjoy Yoga - or even just making a nice breakfast and a healthy lunch to take to work helps or by making an effort with makeup/hair to feel better-able to face the day is also good.
It's hard to keep it all balanced though.
