AS sufferer and the highs and lows of being Single
deleted_user
Hi there!
thought I set the ball rolling here, just founded this group so this is all new to me and I am a bit of a novice so I ask for your help and patience here. First topic that might get people to come online and talk about whats it like suffering from AS and being single and whats it like in the dating game? it is harder for people to meet the opposite sex who understands what they are going through or would it be easier to meet someone who suffers from the same condition as yourself.
I am single myself and I haven't had luck meeting anyone who understands yet, I am like everyone else who has similar interests such eating out, going to the movies and leading a pretty normal life. AS to some people is bit of a taboo! and conversations are hard to start up... So come on help me out here!! What do you think?

I am in a relationship and he still does not understand what is going on with me and why i am not able to do things i used to be able to, I was diagnosed about a month ago but have been experiening pain for about 3 years and was in and out of the drs office trying to figure out what was going on, finally a dr referred me to a reumatologist and finally began to get answers. My boyfriend does not understand the pain that I am in everyday and thinks its all in my head, finally when i got the dx he began to understand but still is not fully aware. I know how you feel.

I believe if you reach out to single s with other similar diseases they might understand more easily than a single who has never experience any sort of pain . just a thought. I am married but still very lonely, sometimes he understands and can be very sympathetic.. But with a chronic disease it must make it very hard to be chronically sympathetic ! lol ! Does that make any sense?

I have found that very few people really get what is going on with me. Work is getting better, my boss is finally understanding what AS is I think! Plus I have arthritis on top of it all.
