Sick feral kitties

I have a couple of outside kitties who are sick right now. It doesn't help that we are having very cold weather so early. We usual don't get this kind of weather until December or January where I live. Christopher is the sickest so I started him on some antibiotics and increased everyone's l-lysine.

He does not sleep around my place so I don't know if he has a warm place to stay during this kind of weather. I have two shelters but only my 4 fit in those. It's only comfortable for a couple of cats but I have seen mine pile in to one shelter before. My outdoor kitties are not small by any means......they are all on the chunky side......:-) Mine don't usually let Christopher hang around here much anyway, we are doing good that they have accepted I feed him. I sometimes have to get after mine when they try and chase Christopher off at meal times. I might try and make up another shelter but it won't be as nice as the first ones I made.....they were not cheap.

Could use some prayers that my feral cats stay safe and warm this winter.

I agree with Joy, I think it's great that you are caring for these kittens. I'm wondering if there is some kind of group that would help out with the supplies you may need. I have two shelters made out of a fishing box, styrafoam and hay. I'm told that these will keep them warm through the winter months. I hope so as it has gotten very cold here the past few days. It's certainly a wonderful thing your're doing. Good luck with Christoper, I hope the medicine is helping. :) Josephine

on line there is a plastic container how to, it may be in here or in my journal as well. two bins place one inside the other with HAY. has to be hay. let me find it and send it to you. i always marvel that anything survives life up north where its cold. it was 46 last night and i was worried like crazy about the animals.

Thanks for the ideas. I don't have any extra money at this time but I will keep a look out for something. Like I said he does not stay here so my cats would probably take it over.

I am having a problem with a raccoon taking over one of my shelters during the day time hours. These shelters only fit two big cats. Last night I went to look and see if the raccoon had left and I turned the opening snug up against a wall so now nobody can use it. I have two cats snuggling in a shelter and my other two babies are sitting on the porch in the wind and rain. They won't even go in the area where the other shelter is, it has straw next to it and a blanket on top of it. It's in a little inclosed area out of the weather but I think they are afraid because I moved it so there is no opening. I think maybe the raccoon came back in the early morning hours and found out it couldn't get in it because the shelter had been moved but not enough to get in the opening. I just want to make sure the raccoon finds another place to sleep and I want to clean it out and put fresh straw in it. I have never had a problem with the raccoons before.

january 16, 2014 on my journals, is the diagram. did you see it. its just two tubs, so $8 max. and then it tells you how to insert them and put hay in and seal it by using a blowdryer. it was really interesting. the other thing people do is put up small wood sheds, but that does cost money. those can be insulated for real and shelves put inside. the larger ones can have a door and window and a person can actually use it like an office.

Yes, I have seen it. I am so stressed out now because I thought the raccoon couldn't get in the shelter if I faced the opening close to the wall. Yesterday morning I saw it had been moved but I didn't think it was enough for it to get in it so I pushed it back to the wall. I guess he was in it because this morning it was moved and all chewed up like he was trying to get out last night. Then to make matters worse he is back in it right now. He has crapped in it and is hiding in the very back corner of it. This raccoon really damaged it bad and don't know if I can fix it. The shelters I made are really nice sturdy ones that were not cheap and they are hard to build. My friend actually did most of the work because I don't have a car to get the supplies and she had the tools to build it.

I can't stop crying because I don't have any money to make a nice shelter again and I can't get this raccoon to stay away. Two of my cats sat on my porch in the cold wind and rain because they had no where to go for shelter. I have no money at all right now and I'm struggling with bills and food as it is.

You will be surprised how some people will find it in their heart to help you. All it takes is a Rubbermaid bid, Styrofoam and some hay. Hopefully someone in the area can help. Don't feel bad and don't give up.

go the Craigslist.com for the city nearest you. space down to the FREE area. you will find shelters, you will find building supplies, you will find old sheds, you will find free insulation. also visiting the addresses of people who just had garage sales is another way.

if you can get the ferals on your porch to eat INSIDE a large carrier, you can slam the door shut as they eat. this is excellent for getting them fixed and its also excellent for bringing them in at night. they will get used to that and since you put the carrier back outside again in the morning and they aren't running around inside, the landlord can't say anything.

the raccoon is cold too. and needs shelter too. don't be hard on him. she may be pregnant and about to give birth and needs to find a safe place for herself and her babies.
