My dog Max, a 9 year old Cocker Spaniel, recently had to go to the Vet because he began bleeding from his rectum. The Vet discovered that it was Anal Gland Cancer which is one of the worst forms a dog can get. He described it as a "death sentence" for a dog because it spreads so rapidly. They did surgery and removed the tumor, however the report showed cancer had spread. The dr. said the prognosis was bad. I was completely devastated and asked for an ultrasound to see how far the cancer spread. Surprisingly enough, the report showed the "bad" cancer did not spread to the lymph nodes, but there is a nodule on his liver. We decided to put him on a chemo "pill" because it had the least side effects. Has anyone ever put their dogs through chemo or radiation. I believe in Max's quality of life and if the pill causes him to become ill, I will just stop him from taking it. He is my baby!

HELLO SO SORRY ABOUT MAX, I HAD MY CINDY WITH SKIN CANCER, SHE HAD SURGERY TWICE, AND IN BETWEEN SHE HAD A HOMOEOPHATIC REMEDY FOR CANCER, ALSO VIT C, GOOD FOOD, ORGANIC IS BEST, OUR VET WAS AN ALTERNATIVE MED VET, THE REMEDY WAS CALLED , CARCINOSINS, BUT THE DOG HAS TO BE PRESCRIBED THE RIGHT MED..
IT IS SAD TO SEE OUR BELOVED PETS ILL, MAKE THE BEST OF THE TIME LEFT, PLEASE LET US KNOW HOW MAX GETS ON, WE CARE HERE, I AM SURE THAT YOU WILL MAKE THE BEST CHOICE FOR MAX WELL BEING, I KNOW HOW DEVASTING IT IS, LOVE LUCY**

Thank you guys so much for your caring and understanding. Trying to explain this to people who are not animal lovers is difficult. Like I have nothing better to do with my money than spend it on a dog. They don't realize how much like family an animal becomes. I will keep you posted. So far the pill is doing well, he hasn't had any side effects. Let's see what happens in month when he has another Ultrasound. Thanks again for your compassion. Hugs back!

Best of luck to you and Max and please keep us updated. I have never had a dog on chemo, but a dear friend had one (a terrier) who took it over two years. She did really well (not sick, happy, lots of love), but when it came back the 3rd time, my friends just knew it was a battle too hard for Pitty to fight so they made her comfortable until they had to put her down.

I think you are doing the exact right thing and you are a great dog Mama! Maybe you and Max can even beat this!

Thank you guys so much and Angel, thanks for the prayers. I really think they are helping. He has been tolerating the pills well and his appetite is great! I am grateful for this time that I have with him...... I hope he has continued success with this medication. I really do believe in the power of prayer! Thanks to you all!

I believe when we take on the responsiblility of owning a pet, it is like caring for a child. It is a lifelong responsibility but the rewards are endless. Unlimited affection and adoration......can't beat that!

I always said if I had a big yard I would take in more animals, I just love them! Such a great feeling to come home at the end of a long day only to find your beautiful pet waiting for you, tail wagging! I love it!

no, but i know with chemo and dogs, they can eat dry CAT FOOD but have trouble with dog food. it makes all the difference!

A month since Max was diagnosed with cancer and I am posting that so far, thank god, he is doing well. He is still tolerating the medication with no side effects. He is eating well and behaving as loving and cute as always. He just had a grooming on Saturday and looks handsome. Just keeping you guys posted. Thanks for caring.
