I have talked with others in the neighborhood who care for feral and stay cats and they all are having this problem. A friend of mine who lives down the road and cares for several feral cats lost one a few weeks ago from this. By the time he passed away he was nothing but bones and had pulled most of his hair out. The fleas are just so bad this year.

someone told me the same thing that comfortis for dogs can also be used for cats?

is there any way to trap them and then apply frontline or something similar through the wires of the trap and then re-release. we also use ivermectin for parasites and that can go into the food.

I was able to get a hold of some Revolution and get it on one cat that I can touch. I tried putting it on another that sometimes lets me touch her, she lets me touch her but the minute I put the treatment in my hand and go to put it on she runs off. I have 2 that won't come near me or go near the trap. They have been trapped one to many times.

I wish they made a flea treament in pill form like they do dogs. They all love chicken baby food and that is how I get them to take medications. I don't have the money right now to get some tapeworm pills as the Revolution was over $100.00. The feral cat coalition suggested Dontral for the tapeworms but you can only get it from a vet. I did find it online, has anyone ever ordered this and used it? I'm afraid to use ivermectin without someone here that can show me how to dose as I heard that could kill them.

Weigh cats before treatment. Cats should be dosed according to bodyweight. Drontal Cat worm tablets are given as a single dose by mouth. Cats should be dosed on an empty stomach. One Drontal Cat Allwormer Tablet treats up to 9 lb in weight. Cats and kittens 4.5 lb and under should be given ½ tablet, cats 4.6 - 9 lb should be given 1 tablet and cats over 9 lb should be given 1 tablet per 9 lb of bodyweight. A common regime for treatment is to worm kittens every 2 weeks from 2 weeks old until 12 weeks, monthly from 3 months until 6 months then every 3 months as an adult cat. These recommendations are of a general nature. In specific instances where infestation is particularly heavy or many cats are housed together, a veterinarian should be consulted

Do not use in kittens under 2 weeks of age. This medication should not be used in animals allergic to it.

My cats are all feral so weighing them is not an option for me. I also have to put any medication in food to give it to them so giving it on a empty stomach is not an option either. I will just do what I can I guess. I was able to treat the other feral with flea treatment so 2 of them can be treated and the other 2 I can't help.

I do know they all have tapeworms though so I will try and find something for that.

goat dewormer was recommended by our last vet as we do large numbers of animals as well. also tradewinds brand for tapeworms also works, just crush it up and put it in the food, tradewinds brand can be crushed up and put in moist food TASTELESS, but the more expensive drontal, animals will NOT eat if its crushed and put in there.

yeah, revolution takes care of EVERYTHING. i have one like that, that runs off, if i can corner it in a cage, then i can put stuff on it by its hind quarters and then let it back out, but i can't put it behind the neck. its only put behind the neck so they won't lick it anyway and revolution tastes bad, so it shouldn't matter where it is.

Thanks, I will have to look into the tradewinds brand. I think our local feed mill carries that. My cats are picky and know when I have added something to the food. I have been able to put the flea treatment on 2 of that cats but not having any luck with the other two. I will keep trying.

My two feral cats that were treated for fleas look so much better already. They have also been a little more loving and wanting me to pet them more often.
