I've been estranged for some time now, and I couldn't be more relieved. It is my mother's side of the family that thinks I am faking and Immune Disorder, PTSD, Sarcoidosis. My Father's side of the family and I always got along, but they've all passed now, so it really is just me.
It's something to think about if you go down the road of estrangement...are you ready to be 100% on your own...sure you may have friends, but when it comes down to the toughest times, it's usually you you have to depend on...
I may have gone way O/T there, but I feel for you Sean, and wish you the best...I hope you get a break and things get easier.
I'm not sure from your posts...do you and your brother get along?
I think you are right, you do have to get out of there, and get out as soon as possible. Can you get medical documentation regarding your injuries and mental health/inpatient stay and are you still getting any treatment?
I might suggest to start applying for low income housing/subsidized housing ASAP...if you do this, every housing authority will tell you there waiting list is a year of 3 years, but still apply...they tell everyone that, they told me that and I was in in less than 3 months.
With subsidized housing if you are not receiving SSDI, your rent is $50 a month and you are required to do 20 (I think) hours of community service per year. If you decide to apply for subsidized housing tell them your parents have given you until the end of the month to live there, so you will move higher up the list.
Just something to think about...
If not, the first step would go to your local dept of human services and tell them you have no job and are going to be kicked out of where you live by (___________) pick a date and apply for food stamps. Since you have no income, you;ll get approved and you will get emergency food stamps right there on the spot. (you may have to wait a long time, and the workers will probably be rude, so if you have some Valium, bring it)
Ask the DHS worker for a list of Housing Authorities or where your local Housing Authority is and if they know where the community mental health clinic is..because chances are there is one somewhere.
If you can manage the trip to get food stamps, and find out where the Housing Authority and Local clinic is in the next few days, you will be well on your way out of your parents house...it'll be a good start.
You won't be homeless...
