Hi, I have been sober over 18 months now. I recently completed a yoga teachers training course with my yoga guru. When I asked her (after the course) whether I can start my own yoga classes at my office (i have an office which I am not using), she told me that the yoga business is not rewarding financially at all, and I should start my website business at the office(which I am anyways doing from home) The point is that my office is hardly 2 minutes walk from her yoga studio. And she is minting money. I think that shes insecure that I will steal her clients since I am very popular at her classes. If she didn't want me to start my own classes she should have not allowed me to do the yoga course at her studio. And I had placed her at the pedestal of God! Shes only human after all.
I have taken a break from her classes to focus on myself. I intend to start my classes next month against her will. After all our recovery should not be dependent on any person, place or thing. She did help me when I was down and out but now she sees me as a potential competitor.Sad that after doing so much yoga she has not understood that I want to teach yoga not for money but to help people with their problems.
What do you all feel about all this?

She is really making a mistake if she pushes you away. There are less male yoga teachers than women, maybe this threatens her.
Maybe you can differentiate yourself somehow by being honest with people. I know you said some found out Yoga kept you sober and were alittle embarrassed, well if I read an ad that told me this I would pick that class over any other....and we all have addictions, food, booze, drugs, work, ect... Either way I think you made the right choice distancing yourself from her. People come and go from our lives when we need them and when their time with us is done, this may be a sign.
I have never made more than 400 per month, and that's OK, because I was just doing it for the enjoyment of it. The ministering aspects and a little spending cash.
And it's true. Very few instructors will even make a living. A few get rich but that is mostly by charging exorbitant amts of money to certify ppl and by selling books
And yes. Some yoga teachers eat their young. I definitely know one of my favortie teachers was unhappy when I started t teach!
So! If you want ot make a living at it good luck! you might be one of the lucky ones. Especially if you can create something unusual, sell yourself well and be in the right place at the right time!
But that's an awful lot of work!
If you want ot do what I have been doing that's fairly easy. Go ahead and use your office space. See if the local clubs have any openings. Good luck and LMK how it oges!
You may make loads of money, you may not, however that is in your hands as how you run the business. If you are doing something you truly love and are an astute businessman you generally can make a go of it. Good luck Sumi and you're right, she is just human and with being human many times comes jealousy, envy and fear.
