Alcohol Recovery Without 12 Steps Community Group
This group was created to explore various recovery paths for Alcoholism. We generally chose to explore paths outside of the AA model, or ones which incorporate, but are not limited to AA. Anyone wanting to learn and explore how to become free from alcohol addiction are welcome. Our main goal is to support each other with compassion and decency, while remaining open minded...
Glad to hear that you didn't drink. Damn good thing you didn't have a stash to get into, too.
Hope you two have a smoother time of it today.
Definitely vent away here. It helps to let off steam in a healthy manner.
Since you know how she is and the scenario of things, sounds like you MAKE it an excuse to drink (even though you aren't drinking now) but your post indicates when she's in her mode you bottoms it up - i bet even if she wasn't in a mode you'd think of reasons to drink. I get the impression that you are blaming the person your wife is as your excuse to drink - I maybe totally wrong on that - that is just my perception of the post and the responses -
If you choose to live with it, then so be it, that's cool - if you find it hard to live with you are gonna have a hard time staying sober - if it is a trigger for your drinking.
Peace!
ps, the last hospitalization, she was diagnosed with depression with psychotic features, and while it was expected she had a50% chance of spending her life in and out of institutions, whe have both worked to keep her stable and at home. Sometimes I just need to bitch.
IT's ok to vent now and then - and again, like i said, wasn't quite sure about the whole picture earlier when i posted, but i think you shared enough to make it more understandable.
Peace!
You seem to have a very clear picture of your situation and also seem to have pretty much come to terms with it!!!
I'm glad that you are seeing a good therpist!!! A GOOD one can help so much!!!!!
Good going on the not drinking!!! Keep up the good work!!
And good luck to your wife, too!!! She has a lot on her plate, too!! ((((((Hugs)))))
The end result was a broken marriage and I came close to losing my life. Things come up in our lives that we just have no control over and if we keep butting our heads up against them we are putting ourselves at risk if we don't step back from them and focus on taking care of ourselves. Just be careful. I admire your loyalty to your wife but sometimes living in chaos can overwhelm us before we know it and lead us back to the bottle. I know that for a fact. I guess what I am trying to say is that you need to take care of yourself first. We are no good to others if we're sick ourselves.
