Alcohol Recovery Without 12 Steps Community Group
This group was created to explore various recovery paths for Alcoholism. We generally chose to explore paths outside of the AA model, or ones which incorporate, but are not limited to AA. Anyone wanting to learn and explore how to become free from alcohol addiction are welcome. Our main goal is to support each other with compassion and decency, while remaining open minded...
I remember that the first week I felt all over the place -- overwhelmed at times, shaky, relieved, determined, scared... I did not need to change who I was to get sober, I needed to find who I am.
I am not powerless; my addiction to alcohol will no longer run my life.
I love what Nelson Mandela said:
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?
It's nice to have you here. Great job on Day 3! Woo hoo!
I know in my early days I did my very best to hit the ground running. I wasted enough time with drinking. It is just like ending a relationship lol You get out and get busy to keep your mind off of the little games your mind tries to play on you.
I wrote and still write a weekly list for myself of things to get done. It could be anything from school work, grocery shopping, extracurricular activities, devoting time to reading on this website, etc.. It was something I could look at everyday and work on by checking things off. My last task on the list is to always write a new list. I also bought a small dry erase board for the refrigerator door to keep daily tasks on and of course always something funny to keep me laughing. Thankfully alcohol didn't steal my crazy personality! I am finishing up college pre-req classes to apply for Nursing school currently, so that alone keeps life and lists busy busy!
What it makes you realize you realize right away is 1.) How amazingly productive you can become haha And 2.) The large difference in quality of life in time spent not drinking simply.
Keep it up, you will love it more and more.
