Alcohol Recovery Without 12 Steps Community Group
This group was created to explore various recovery paths for Alcoholism. We generally chose to explore paths outside of the AA model, or ones which incorporate, but are not limited to AA. Anyone wanting to learn and explore how to become free from alcohol addiction are welcome. Our main goal is to support each other with compassion and decency, while remaining open minded...

Everything can seem overwhelming when you first stop drinking. I'm not an AA'er. Been there done that for a lot of years but it didn't work for me but it can be good for someone just trying to get sober and not having a plan in place. Just being around others who have the same problem can be a big help. Even if you don't agree with everything in the program you can still get a lot out of what you hear at the meetings while you are looking for something that will work for you.
Your hypoglycemic incident sounds frightening! Amazing how we much damage we can do by drinking, and how we can know that we are poisoning ourselves and keep drinking anyway.
I am glad to be sober -- my regret is that I wasn't smart enough to stop drinking for good when I was in my 20s. I do believe that alcoholism is progressive and it just gets worse the longer we drink.
So what's your plan? Are you stopping for good? Or are you not sure yet?
