Alcohol Recovery Without 12 Steps Community Group
This group was created to explore various recovery paths for Alcoholism. We generally chose to explore paths outside of the AA model, or ones which incorporate, but are not limited to AA. Anyone wanting to learn and explore how to become free from alcohol addiction are welcome. Our main goal is to support each other with compassion and decency, while remaining open minded...
they say them out there that each time you say no it gets easier and easier yeah
i came back from a tramp so high on life and then i saw my ex lover and it all came crashing down so for me its about loneliness and this site keeps me company and keeps me safe from drinking
For me the formatt of AA meetings just makes me feel worse people go over and over their problem aue its not good for me
good for you I see
and thats awesome but this site is a substitute for me and a life saver beleive me
I stopped drinking for a year and like you was feeling good and thought I had it under control and could have a drink, guess what happened? I went on a week bender and was back to day one again, when I got complacent that's when the demon thought got her!!! lol
Now when I think I can have just the one drink I make it a cup of tea. lol
Very well done, feel happy and proud
Thanks for posting - it made perfect sense to me!
Wow, and you got up and told your story at a meeting - that's awesome! I just knew AA couldn't be as bad as they make it sound on the main board. Been to about 10 meetings probably - in my lifetime. I wish I would've found one where I felt comfortable enough to go back a second time - let alone share. Maybe some day I'll start looking again for a meeting where I "fit in".
Big Congrats, Elena!
Peace..
Sorry I've been out of touch a few days. It feels good to feel good about yourself again, doesn't it?
Good Job!
It's been my personal experience and from talking to other gambling addicts that it was the reverse, the urges were strongest when you felt 'down,' not 'up.'
I never really thought about this before and wanted to thank you for making me aware of this difference.
Maliachi... I totally understand, I have a few "celebrations" coming up and I am totally fixated about how I will manage myself and not drink. I've already skipped one event for that reason, but I can't stay a hermit forever.
Also to clarify why I mentioned AA... I think I am lucky that I live in a progressive area and found an all-women's group that I can relate to. But I can't get on board with the steps, at least not as written. Step 1 I totally get. 4, 8, and 9 maybe. The rest, not so much.
