Hello everyone. I will keep my story brief I was married for 21 years to an alcoholic. My mother suffered childhood abuse by her alcoholic mother. Needless to say I have seen the Fallout in my life. I left my husband three and a half months ago I couldn't take it anymore. I live alone now and I'm learning to take care of the woman in the mirror for the first time in a long time. I have to come to grips with my enabling personality. If you drop it I'll pick it up almost compulsively. I thought living alone would cure me but I've recently realized my enabling ways or insatiable need to help others who are dysfunctional has cropped back up. I keep having to step back from my own life and analyze what I'm doing. I want a different life now therefore I have to change my own ways. I'm compulsive about helping others but at what point do you draw the line and not feel guilty about it?
That's a very interesting post. That is quite true of myself also..I kicked my son out (again) today for meth use. I can't take it anymore. I hope I can stick to it this time. My other children need me and deserve that too. : (
