Hi everyone.
I am a child of alcoholic parents. The youngest of 6.
Recently, my sister asked to move in with me. She was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder about 7 years ago and has been self medicating with alcohol since teenage years. she raised 3 great kids, but lost it in her late 40's. So now, she is with me. She has broken relationships with her children. Has burned bridges with them all. Her last stay in NY was with her son.
She has been with me for 3-4 weeks now. Its been difficult finding the proper programs and dr's for her as well as an AA group. I am a classic co-dependent Im not sure if I am more enableing than I should be.
Thanks for listening and any help
SV
Sending you endless love and encouragement. There aren't a lot of people on this board, but I'm here. I know what you're going through. My dad's an alcoholic and he's spending a month with me. I haaaaaaaate seeing him drink, hearing him stumble around, smelling the wine. But I also know I can't force him to stop.
My personal advice: keep some personal space around yourself. Go places without her, have "me" time without her, and keep your own friendships and interests. You deserve a life.
Can you enlist her help in finding doctors, AA groups, programs, etc?
