I am having a hard time staying supportive and finding ways or resources to help my husband. He has his ups and downs as he "tries" to quit drinking. In the last year and a half he has been in the hospital 3 times for anything from just dehydration all the way to severe joint pain and pancreatitis. He has lost about 5 jobs since last summer. He will stop drinking for a week or so and do amazing but then next thing I know he is completely wasted. Starting about march this year he started behaving like I have never seen him act. He becomes so volitial and verbally abusive. The last few months when he drinks so much he blacks out he is becoming very agressive. This last time he became physically violent (not to me) but punching walls etc. I am scared of what is going to happen the next time he goes off the wagon. We usually always talk about what happened, because he 90% of the time does not remember anything.I have provided him with every resource around our area such as meetings and programs. He keeps saying "I'm willing to try but you have to stand by me." I am at a loss of what to do or if there is anything else I can do.
Is he looking for resources as well/ this won't work if you are pulling the cart. he has to need and want it and pull people and elements into his life for his support. It is a serious thing since he has had these illnesses, and he needs to take a good look at that. A week is a good start; don't let him rope you into being responsible for his recovery. Be very careful about the physical anger......
