We have been together for 2 1/2 years- lived together for 2.
however, my first husband was 15+ years older, this was sort of annulled (though he still shows up sometimes even now). then my second husband who is the official one, was 15+ years older and died of leukemia, and the present husband is within 6 months of my own age, though we are separated most of the time. the first two were perfect matches ONLY BECAUSE we had everything under the sun in common with each other, otherwise an age gap can be a problem because it is culturally different. how people were raised and the beliefs in one decade are generally completely different in another decade. however, with my "older" husbands a lot of the experiences and views were near identical because all of us were artists who did a lot socially etc., and in general at young ages. you also have to be careful to balance out the friends of different ages thing because if you don't you can be putting yourself in a box of sorts. i can see how that happens with many people who are married, but not very social, i think they are the ones that go through a lot of the traumas with the stages of life because their lives are more extremely ONE specific role.
even now that i am older, the many years difference thing is still happening, but the people are YOUNGER than me instead. i was shocked when younger guys started asking me out and its been going on for a very long time. its like cher said once in an interview, its not planned, that is who is asking me out. lol. i also realized that i have been socialing with people between the ages of 21 and 41 most of my teen/adult life. even now, it hasn't changed. most of the people i know are in that age range somewhere. i don't think i really hit the need to be sedate in my everyday life until recently, and that is probably because of health more than anything else and the side effects of daily medication.
someone should do a "passages" kind of book for all of us living outside the box in life. i'd love to read it, as the present "passages" book only deals with people living inside the box and that's only one-third of the population. what about the rest of us.
My name is Jennifer and I am in my 20's. I am in a committed same sex relationship where there is a 34 year age difference between my partner and I. I am looking forward to learning more about all of you and how all of you feel about your age gap relationships. :)
