Where is everyone!

Hi! I really would love to have a space where I can communicate my feelings by leaving messages with my fellow ACoA's . I welcome getting feedback even though some people don't like to get feedback and I understand that. I guess you can always say if you want or don't want feedback in your shares. 


Other online groups I've encountered haven't been supportive in my experience. I've been to other groups on here and have had great experience from the members.

I am an acoa, although, for the most part, am recovered. My parents drinking affected my life in negative ways from the guilt I carried with me for so many years culminating in my own addiction to drugs and alcohol. It took lots of treatment but with a very compassionate counselor, I made it through the storm, so to speak. Now I have a great life and I have never been happier.

That's my life in a nutshell but if you have any questions, just ask.

That is great to hear. Congratulations. I have been in 12 step recovery from drugs and alcohol for 33 years and have had many years of CBT therapy! But it didn't help me enough to be able to be a happy person! I have finally come to see that I have a lot of traumas in my childhood that still effect my mood regularly so I started ACoA program. But I am finding it difficult to do. I have tried to reach out but I don't seem to be able to find someone I can communicate well with. I was in trauma therapy for 6 months and was doing well but my therapist increased her hourly rate $100 and I had to stop! I'm looking for a therapist now who does trauma therapy and whom I can afford! So far no luck! But I haven't been vigilant either! I look and email someone about once a week! How long where you in therapy for?

I had some therapy during the 3 week IOP I attended. Doing the 12 steps with my AA sponsor also helped me plus I had 3 months of group therapy with an addiction counselor after the IOP ended. That was all I needed but I have read alot of spiritual books that really opened my eyes to the spiritual part of my that I had neglected for a long time. That helped me more then anything and I think it was triggered by the 12 steps of AA. I think acoa has something similar, not sure but I will check into it for you.

    check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

     I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...
