I was scared to death of women! I remember when I first started dating. I didn't know how to act and the date would always turn into an utter disaster! I remember the first time I had sex. I couldn't stand to be near a women. After we did it, I just wanted to roll over and go to sleep. I couldn't stand to be touched afterwards. It's no wonder I always got dumped and couldn't maintain a relationship.
It took me many many years to get use to closeness and cuddling and knowing how to act. Now I crave it....but being divorced I don't get it, and it sucks so I don't know what to do.
Merry Christmas!! That has not been my experience Bob. I am anxious to hear if anyone else has experienced this.
My Dad was the Alcoholic. He was a good man. My parents divorced and I chose to be raised by my Dad. I knew my Dad loved me. He wasn't very affectionate though. My Mom was not very affectionate either. Both of my parents would give us the normal hug and kiss hi and good bye but that was about it. I have noticed that I became the complete opposite of them. I am extremely affectionate and the very nurturing type. I totally love taking care of someone. I like that about myself but, it can be bad because I seem to attract people who want to take advantage of me.
Bob: Happy New Year! I am still realizing how family alcoholism affects the way I relate to others. My father really tried to show he cared - but, it was more control of everyone and everything around him! After he started going to AA, he slowly started to be aware when he was interfering instead of being helpful.
My sons are very affectionate toward their small children. Their father has had a drinking problem over the years - he was emotionally absent when they were growing up, and he recently told my daughter-in-law "I messed up".
I am a very private person. I can't stand if a stranger gets too close to me in stores. Am not sure if it is just my personality or a result of my childhood. It takes a while for me to feel close to someone I am attracted to. In fact, I have always dated a man who is known by friends or people I know in the community where I live. It didn't protect me from surprises - most were not as they appeared to be!
