When my counselor said adult children have a issue with control I didn't get it.I was busy focusing on my drug addiction and trying to stay sober and clean.I entered ACA counseling because I could not move forward in the twelve steps.I was blocked in steps two and three. I saw the higher power as a shaming authority figure.I needed help in taking a balanced fair inventory in step four.In counseling, we concentrated on the traits of a adult child. We worked on affirmations, feelings an the modes of thinking. Control was mentioned with perfectionism. I understood the perfectionism instantly, but it was years before I realized my iron -fisted grip on control.
