beyond alcoholism---to weird & crazy
penntucky
my lowlife, cold hearted, selfish, parents were drunks---but also downright (no joke) crazy.
my worthless idiot dad had a great paying job at Bethlehem steel, never missing a day of work----but he also never missed going to bars on Saturday, for TWELVE HOURS straight...and then to church every sunday, with him a big believer in confession to the priest.
My evil mom was a stay at home drunk, throwing up in the sink in the half-bath adjacent to the living room, with me having to leave the room, instead of telling her: "close the door, you pig!"
My lowlife parents were total cheapskates when it came to me, their only kid, and only living relative on my dad's side----though they had tons of money for all kind of bums, and good words about scumbags, and rip off artists, while being ashamed of...ME, of me being bullied in school, of depressed me not having a job, of cold stone sober me till age 21.
My lowlife parents never encouraged me to go to college, and it was unspoken that I shouldn't have a girlfriend (cause all these things would have been revealed to her?).
So much creepy, cold hearted, weirdness, from my parents, in a falling apart eyesore of a house----I had to turn my brain off, for decades, just shrug it off, with only me in middle age, with my lowlife parents dead, to figure all this out.

A tree outside where I live is dying, seemingly from dog urine----with the bully in my building going out his way to not only have his dog urinate there but to have the dog urinate on the fence and sign I bought to try save the tree----and then slide the sign under my apt door.Turns out that was a TRIGGER for me----bullying and humialtion right out of high school. I love my children, friends and the things I have lovingly accumulated. Once in a while it will hit me that my parents were a mess, but my personality can't spend any time on what was. I make sure my grandchildren know the real me - cannot imagine drinking and making everyone around me miserable.
You and I are able to go forward and have friendships - travel and just celebrate being free. I love my life now - looking back is a fleeting moment and I immediately distract myself.
I'm from PA but now in MD! Have a great week.
I am glad you were able to escape.
I'm sorry you had bad experiences. I understand it's hard to see this as a child and come to terms with it as an adult. It's natural to feel a whole range of emotions.
I'd like to offer some words of comfort and I hope it help.
By seeing this as you do, you know the difference between wrong and right.
By recognising situations you have since surrounded yourself with you recognise your worth.
By expressing this on here you are able to be open and honest.
That makes you as far removed from the situation you grew up in that you could possibly get.
Love and light xx
