I've been in therapy off and on for 6 years. It seems like pretty much every "problem" I have stems from my mom's BPD. I'm struggling with being in confident in relationships. I have a hard time voicing my opinion and saying when I think I'm right. I've been in a relationship for 4 years and I've changed a lot during those years. I've really been working on issues from my childhood. At the beginning of this relationship, I was pretty submissive and didn't want to cause any conflict. I am now becoming more confident in myself and feel okay with a little bit of conflict. I'm able to be pretty open with him but he seems to use my mom's BPD as a reason to blame me for starting fights. I can accept that this is an occasional problem but recently we had a fight where I was trying to be sensitive to a problem that bothers him a lot and he took it as me starting a fight. I'm thinking that he anticipates a fight and starts one without realizing it. Anyone have a similar issue?
Having a parent who is both bpd/npd means that any time I let my guard down to trust her, she would either flip out or do something to deeply wound me. I guess I sort of expect everyone else to do that. I've made an art form out of building emotional barricades around myself, but sometimes I wonder at what cost? Just be patient with yourself - you'll figure it out!
