Adult Children Estranged From Their Parents Community Group
This group is for Adult Children who decided to estrange from their parents. There are many reasons that Adult Children decide to estrange from their parents and it is never an easy choice. Feel free to post your personal stories and lets help each other as we grieve the parents that we do not have. We are not here to judge others, but to listen, help, heal, and make...
I felt like the grief was unbearable for a long time; in fact, it took me about a year to grief. Then one day out of nowhere, I stopped crying and I started living. I still feel sadness if I dwell on it, but it is controllable. I let go.
I prayed a lot when I was dealing with my grief, and I picked up a hobby. I started to sew. Strangely as that may sound, it helped take my mind off the things I cannot change. At the start of this New Year, I also started to send cards and gift cards. That is my way of honoring her and loving her. I’ve realized that I cannot make her love me, but that doesn’t mean that I have to stop loving her. I’m going to keep being the person God intended me to be regardless of what she does. I haven’t seen her in a couple of years, and I spoke about 5 words to her last summer. She has made no attempts to reconcile with me, and I have accepted that she probably never will and that’s okay by me.
Everyone deals with grief differently. I was very angry for a long time. I went between anger and crying alone into a pillow. Now, I don’t really feel anger, and I even feel pity for her at times. She’ll never know what family and love is supposed to be about. She’s trapped in a self-centered world that only revolves around her, and I am living now. She can’t hurt me no more. I have a lot of love to give, and hopefully one day I’ll be able to give it to her. One day, she’ll open her eyes and see what she missed out on. From what I’ve heard, I’m glad I’ve missed out on her life for the last several years, because it made me start truly living my own. I’m at peace and I’m happy without her.
I know that it hurts to know that you wasted so many years, went through all that pain and abuse for nothing... That' isn't fair but the more you expect them to act like normal family members, the more time your wasting.
I am an orphan too. I'd rather be an orphan than be abused. I don't miss it. I know they will never change. One of my friends told me she has never seen me so happy. It is because I went no contact with my mother and sister.
My mother send my son a birthday card and check. She never remembers his birthday. He will send her a thank you note after the holidays. We don't want any of her Christmas drama. It's not like she wants to get together for Christmas. She just wants to try to ruin our holiday. It isn't going to happen. They will never act normal because they think they can treat us like crap and it is okay.
