Adoptive Parents of Estranged Children Community Group
Did your adopted teen/adult child reject you and sever all family ties? Come and share heartaches and comfort with others in the same situation as we try to piece our families back together. We particularly welcome adoptees who were estranged from their adoptive families and want to share how they found their way back home.
My adoptive daughter is 24 as of yesterday. Had a baby a year ago. Her boyfriend and his family are very supportive of her, but they totally buy into her "poor orphan" construct and have refused to meet me.... My daughter has never developed a work ethic, and lies, cheats and steals, at least she did. Maybe her baby has helped her to grow up, but apparently she thinks I am the root of all her problems. My question is - is this common? She's now busy trying to suck in my bio daughter into this drama and puts her right in the middle. My ex just remarried and is playing Mr. Switzerland, not interested in helping defend me or tell her boyfriend's family the truth. I moved back to the US in 2010 with my bio daughter so the physical distance doesn't help. I feel the only choice is to just let go... I'm so afraid my adoptive daughter will struggle with parenting once the baby gets older as she's got no moral compass and is still lying.
