Adhd parents Community Group

Lets share our axperiences with our kids what had woked what hasent and how our kids are similar and different with thier symptoms of adhd.Is medication a good choice? Or anyone trying any alternative as Drake institude to change the brain waver by neuro feedback?

Is there anyone staying home with their kids over the summer? I am and I feel like I'm going CRAZY!! My son who is seven, has ADHD. He is always on the go,jumping from one activity to the next. Nothing can keep him entertained for too long. Playing with the kids in the neighborhood is a nightmare. He is mean,rude and usually rough with hands on the other kids. I have to supervise every minute of the day and it is exausting! I know that I'm not the only mom out there dealing with this but.... in the world of ADHD you do feel alone at times.

Has your doctor suggested meds, or have you sen a naturopath?

Yes, we have seen two pediatricians and both have said that they are hesitant to trial medication at this time. They feel he is still too young to be put on stimulant meds. They would like the school to step up and have him referred for a psyco educational evaluation to see if there might be a learning disability. It is a very frustrating process because the school is saying " medication " and the doctors are saying "wait" and my son and our family are somewhere in the middle of all this! I have done some research on homeopathic medicine. It is interesting to me as they feel that they need to treat the whole person rather than just the symptoms of the person. Not sure if this is the answer but as a mother you need to open your mind to all options!

I was a teacher (at a different school) and mother of an undiagnosed ADHD kindergartener at one time. His teacher and I both felt we didn't want him on medicine. She had many volunteers working with him. Towards the end of school she called us in for a conference and spoke of retention. My husband and I said to each other we can try him on medicine and if we don't like it we can have the doctor take him off of it. He started medication and started learning what was needed. He passed kindergarten.
Even though we were adults in our 30's it was still difficult to deal with family members that didn't approve, but it was a decision we made and dealt with our parents.
