Does he concede that he is a bit excessive sometimes? That would be a start. You don't want to make him defensive. Have you googled about the disorder & approaches to therapy?
You have a valid point that the child's needs are higher priority. I sincerely wish you the best. It is possible to change if we acknowledge a problem & are willing to work to be free.
I don't know what APA is either.
IMO his most serious condition is the JPS disorder (Just Plain Selfish) I like that. I go to therapy regularly, for ODC and other super cool disorders, and JPS is spot on!!
