The softer side of growing up in a dysfunctional home... a sanctuary to feel home with friends and never alone.
To take a chance and entered the DS Affirmation Event for February... it is on "My Mantra." This is what I wrote...
As an alcoholic, a child of two alcoholic parents, and a codependent, my life has had more then its share of nightmares.
As a child of an alcoholic, I listened to the screams of my mom from the many beatings she received. And I also felt the pain of those beatings myself. And more then once became the wife of my dad as a toy of his drunken sexual urges. I lived through those nightmares.
As an alcoholic, I ended up being homeless and lost due to the sick manipulative games I played. I lived through those nightmares as well.
As a codependent, I felt less then human as my needs took a back seat to the needs and wants of others. I also survived those nightmares.
These nightmares could have run my life. They could have owned me. But I would not settle for that. As a child we live through our dreams and fantasies. I never forgot mine and as I found sobriety over 16 years ago, I began to toss aside those nightmares and began creating dreams.
My mantra is the name of my website. It is the name of my third book.
My mantra is Creating Dreams, from the nightmares of hell.
So many times the abuses of childhood follow us through life. I refused to accept that my past, with their nightmares, would be my present or my future. Instead I would create dreams and make them a reality. There by

It amazes me at times how "Straight Forward & Honest" you are... Because you Don't Hide, You don't back down and you always hold your head high.. I admire that About you Dave... Always Have :) I am Most Grateful that thru the Changes in boards and the moving around that you are still you, and I am Slowly allowing Me to get back to being Me... Thanks To All Your Honesty, and the many Wonderful People, and Friends that i Now call family that is entering this Journey "With" me I am Slowly (Sometimes VERY SLowly) :) Allowing myself the Same Justice... I am Admitting the wrongs, and Accepting the Dreams that have been Day By Day, One Day at a Time Coming my Way thanks to ALL of you .... Your encouragement, and ESH is what pulls me Up when My Day Is seeming down, and I am Forever Grateful ;)
