I think that says it all...
I got back from England on the 4th and it just seems like my mind hasn't stopped since my return. I didn't work on the 5th and I now truly understand what folks are talking about when they mention "jet lag." So I went back to work on the 6th which was a Thursday... and I'll be the first to admit my employers didn't get much for their money on Thursday or Friday.
Then Monday came and everything was thrown at me. As most of you know I work in a wholesale bakery company. We make products that are sold to retailers. On average our company produces over two million pounds of cake a year.
My job is in research and development. I create all the new products that we sell. Last year, I created a dozen different types of Liquor Cakes and a couple of Breakfast Breads as well as a couple of cakes. And I do all this work right at this time of the year... it is our slow time, so I make these cakes and hopefully by late summer they pass all the tests and are ready for human consumption.
For me, that means figuring out the exact formulas for these products, while also staying within government guidelines as to how much preseravitives I can use and things like that. It really gets to be mentally draining. Anyway this past week, our number one distributor wanted to see some of the new products we were working on.
The products I sent them I worked on throughout 2010, but I still needed nice fresh samples for them to taste... so in the matter of two weeks, I made 7 different breakfast breads, a couple of cakes, and something totally new a coffeecake... and if I do say so the coffeecake is delicious and oh so moist. By Friday afternoon the purchasing department had all my formulas and weights for a batch and the costs of each cake, so it was a productive week.
But that wasn't the only thing I had going on last week. We had a two day workshop with a dozen employees to become HACCP certified and all the info I soaked in just seems to be short circuiting my mind. On the good side of things though, before my trip I finished my first course of education to become a certified "Master Baker."
And since I've been back I just successfully completed the second segment of these studies. Now it is time for a time out. I haven't done anything on my website since I've been back and on the front page it still is wishing everyone a "Merry Christmas."
In the past things like that would drive me crazy. Anymore, it will get done when it gets done... though I will say I am at the point I hope it is shorter rather then later. It might kind of look bad if its Valentines Day and my site still says "Merry Christmas."
Oh, I'm just kind of rambling now... I just wanted to stop by and say "Hi," and let you know you've all been on my minds. You are all a major reason why I am who I am today.... and I thank you for that...
Love and Peace
Dave

You are a very productive person...I admire your great atittude for work :) I'm very proud of you...Master Baker.
I hope you will find some time for yourself as you really need that.
Lots of love Anna
Still Merry Christmas? *smiling* I really relate to letting things like that drive me crazy in the past. Everything had to be so perfect and I had to be in total control. I still can suffer from the control issues - and less so the perfectionism.......getting a bare pass in an assignment i did a couple of years ago (I got 55 or 56%) helped me see that i am still here, the world is still turning and it's OK. It's OK to be human. *giggling* was shocked at first though!
My father came from a military background and my God! He can drive me crazy with his inability to not have to plan everything and be in control - even of other people's hobbies and weight! Compassionately I see that that was his environment - he cannot bear anything that seems even remotely 'out of control' .
I know it is an illusion in the whole tapestry of life but feeling 'in control' makes me feel so much safer too.
Oh well!
I send you love and hugs and good luck with your studies!
Myself, I am more a tortoise but i get there. No longer the A* obsessive student I was - THANK GOD!

Yes indeed... SOunds as tho Buzy may be an understatement ;) And I Do so Very Much Understand your desire to be "Under-Welmed" ... Our work is Rock Bottom Dead so this is my time of year to get the things that I Let Go when we were busy , to now catch up on, and yet I find myself HERE...lol...
I have even Started me a Nice "To Do" List because there is SOOO Much of it, and yet, I can't "Get there from Here"... I did manage to get the Taxes Paid on time, so I have patted myself on the back a Couple times for that one **Giggling** But that is pretty much it!!! So I guess I need to Pick back up dust off, and get my head back in the game...
I know this weather is So Not Helping Me Feel Like Moving, today it was 7 degrees when I woke up at 5:30... I So Very Much just wanted to stay in my Jammies & Covers all day, Still Do Really...lol... But i Suppose the time has come to quit the excuses and get to it!!!

Dave, exhausted or not, you have served as an inspiration to me on so many levels. Even though there are lots of pearls of wisdom I have picked up from you over time, I would like to share with you the one that has been an epiphany for me: Recovery affects every part of life, be that emotional well-being, relationships with others, and our work relationships and work ethic.
Your creativity and loyalty surely are worthy of your employer's appreciation.
And I know just what you are talking about with that jet-lag.
I'm still kind of worn out.... two days ago didn't get much sleep because of a tooth ache that came out of nowhere... well yesterday I had it pulled and now I'm in more pain.... lol......... I must have had a heck of an infection with it... I'm about ready to calll the dentist and get some antibiotics
