Expectations

I used to think expectations were the breeding ground for trouble and resentments. But the 12th Promise of ACOA says, "Gradually, with our Higher Power's help, we learn to expect the best and get it."

So yes, I do have some expectations. I expect my HP to be there with me always, I expect to be able to trust Her all the time and She expects me to be loyal and honest to Her.

That's beautiful, Dave. Thank you for once more sharing your creativity with us. When I look at my higher power's attributes, I know that they are those which represent the best in me and in others, the purest part, the essence of Goodness and Love. When I connect with this part of me, my hopes materialize.

I am learning that the messages of the past do not have to define who I am today, nor do they have to guide or direct my actions. But I'm a long ways away from saying "the messages of the past have disappeared." Don't I wish.

I do have expectations - not only of my Higher Power but of others too. They aren't always met but I do have expectations. I expect to be able to trust a best friend. I would expect to be able to trust my husband. There are many expectations I have. Like I say, they are not always met and when they aren't I try and apply the principles of the program in dealing with the fall out. I do trust my Higher Power, though sometimes - being human *smiling* I can fail in this!
