I have bowel incont. and use adult briefs full time. I have a bm without warning and without feeling. It's easy to clean up with a shower at home. This is the preferred way. BUt cleaning up with wipes in public is much harder. It takes a long time to clean up all of it, Use gloves and bring paper towels. Lay on an underpad and wrap it all up in the underpad. Use a mirror to make sure you are clean.

Bowel incontinence is the worst. I've been quadriplegic for 28 years at this point. And it still gets to Me occasionally. It was horribly humiliating when I first had My strokes. And still dealing with life as a new quad. After the first year or so. I was able to mostly manage a bowel program. With My caregivers. Very few bowel accidents for years. I was able to Use indwelling catheters for a long time. But later I contracted too many terrible UTI's and incontinence briefs just worked better. Over the last 3 or so years. Becoming dependent on a ventilator and having troubles swallowing I had to start using a feeding tube. With tube feedings comes a lot of diarrhea. And maintaining a bowel program was no longer possible. I often leak small amounts of liquid stool. Especially after a tube feeding. Some days I don't have a actually bowel movement but several times a week I will have a major bowel event without warning. I hate it. I'm sure My husband and caregivers hate it. Although they don't say anything. Its just part of My care. I'm really hoping I can get well enough at some point to have the surgery to install a supra pubic catheter and a colostomy. Just so sick of the diapers and pads. I don't get out of the house very rarely. My wheelchair reclines completely flat. So I can be changed in it if its an emergency. I have blood pressure issues as well. Occasional quadriplegic spasms. My legs need to be elevated periodically through the day. I wear plastic backed overnight incontinence briefs with a smaller brief inside so I can be out for 4-6 hours without needing to be changed. Unless I have a bowel event. Then usually My caregiver can just remove the messy inner brief usually and clean Me up enough. To get Me home and cleaned thoughly. The most important thing is skincare. Dealing with pooping accidents. You need to clean up as much as possible. As soon as possible.

In 2013 I had an accident resulting in spinal injury at the base of my neck with paralysis from there down, spasticity (muscle contractions and spasms) and double incontinence. Both my anus and my urethra have been left closed except with manual intervention. I hardly ever pass urine via the usual route (I have a suprapubic catheter passing directly into my bladder about 2 inches below my...
