I was put back into nappies and rubber pants at night after an appendix operation age 4/5, when I caught whooping-cough as well. They have remained on for the rest of my life through thick and thin and I now could not survive without their support! Growing up there was no training to hold a full bladder and wait as we played outdoors in the surrounding woods at all times and nature became our daytime bathroom - quick! behind a tree, a bush, a hedge, a rock! Called in for lunch we could "go" indoors. My end of day call: "NAPPY TIME, NICO!" meant bath, nappies and rubbers, supper, bed, sleep. The next I knew was a sodden nappy and a soaking bed - the mattress and pillow only saved by a thick rubber sheet and a crinkly rubber pillowslip! The potty inder the bed unused of course; and as for going to the bathroom, don't ask! A spanking, face rubbed in the wet bed [worst pf all!] and a cold bath would then follow. Maybe I shall continue to get presents of talcum and nappy cream to the end of my days......?! Nappies and rubber pants - then, now and forever central to my life!
