I just read a post on the Alcoholism group about a member of DS who passed away yesterday. She was just 15 years old and I guess from what I know that life got too painful for her to live.
I was just taking a break from cleaning my kitchen when I read this but I just stopped to take a few minutes to think about her and also think about myself and how fortunate and grateful I am.
I have been in the position many times when I nearly chose the same course of action, it didnt feel like a choice at the time because the pain of life was so great. But somehow each time something happened or I lost courage and I didnt carry it through. That isnt the way it works out for everyone.
It wasnt until the time came when I was so ill that I had almost lost the choice as to whether I would live or die that I was able to get the help I needed. Again that isnt the way it works for everyone.
I am so grateful for the help I have had that saved my life and so sad for those that dont get what they need or are in so much pain they cannot find anything to make a difference.
For those that are in pain today and struggling, may you hold onto the hope that things can get better and reach out for the help that is here and in AA meetings all around the world.
For those that are enjoying the benefits of a new way of life and have received the promises of recovery, please take some time to remember how different it might have been and reach out to those who struggle in the same way as people reached out to you.

I would never say that today, now my life is actually rewarding and enjoyable. I could not see that ever happening back then, it was still a blank canvas and I knew alcoholism had me firmly in its grip.
Amazing things can happen, and do, in short spaces of time. So I came to believe that there is always a good reason for hope and a good reason, if unseen as yet, to carry on.
I read her journal and just felt her desperation...I can remember feeling so low.
I too am oh so grateful that help came for me in time and more to the point that I finally took the help available.
I'm not so sure I would have been able to do that in her circumstances at such a young age. This is oh, so sad...
This just makes me know, even with more conviction than ever, that those of us who have been fortunate enough to get help and find our way out of hell, be there on the ready for those who still suffer...
