Steps to go to a meeting

I've struggled with going to meetings in the past. It gives me anxiety. I know I need it now since I relapsed last march and everything has spiraled out of control. I've only been sober for a little over 24 hours but I've finally realized I can't do it on my own

Are you able to identify what it is about the meetings that gives you anxiety?

I could never stop drinking on my own either so I hear you.

Well done on 24 hours........just a moment at a time is all we need to do. And, as you know, don't pick up that first drink as it will get you drunk.

Drinking and withdrawal always gave me far more anxiety than going to a meeting - or pretty much anything else, come to think of it! That may be true for you too. You posted a couple of weeks of weeks ago now, I hope you are okay and went to a meeting. If not, then now might be a good idea. Let us know how you are doing.

I went to a meeting this morning. 1st one in 8 months. I walked into a room at 7 am packed to the gills with people I didn't know and felt like I had just walked into my home. I just love AA.

The anxiety you feel is the disease of alcoholism working on you. Nothing changes if nothing changes.

The meeting will help you learn to deal with stress. It's like a mental workout, just go and get better

On a link to a post on Facebook a person had a link to one of Father Martin's "Chalk Talks." Underneath was this statement..."Addiction is a shame based emotional malady." One of the key principles for me and many is that by being "rigorously honest" I break the bonds that shame held me in. It doesn't matter what state of mind we are in AA can help untwist all the twisted thinking that fueled all our addictions. It can restore personal dignity and purpose. The promises do come true even though I did not believe it when I came in. I drank the Koolaid a long time ago and I am still drinking it and still getting better!!!
