First of all, it goes against the 11th tradition:
"Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion".

Second, at $2000 per head, it would be tempting to recruit mentally disturbed people just to get the numbers up.

Third, true 12th step work does not involve money.

If you not been sober for a good while, i guess it would be easier to be dragged down by the people you trying to recruit,
The job sounds like a dangerous game.

With 12 step work , you go in twos, to keep each other from doing anything stupid, like getting into drinking with the person you trying to help.
Our alcoholic minds want us to drink, and the person we trying to help, could easily talk us into it if we not careful.

Sounds like the rehab offering you a job were more concerned about making them selfs cash, than looking after you.
or they are just stupid.

alice id have to disagree with some of your opinions. the reason we take 2 ppl on 12th step calls is they could end up violent. so the main reason is a safety one rather than one of the aa members doing something stupid. if one no longer has a alcoholic mind cause the obsession has left then why doing a 12th step call would one want to drink?read the 10th step promises. and no alice a drunk could not talka recovered alki into drinking thats absurd

Doing that kind of stuff for money goes against the Traditions and indeed the spiritual principles I live by. You seem to have a good sponsor there! It's simple, if someone NEEDS rehab and we can help them to get there that is cool, but taking money for doing it?? Nah! not good, not good at all!

I always do 12 st step calls with my sponsor and/or one of my sponsees. We take a sponsee with us to show them how to do it, and we go together because there are some real lunatics out there!! Also, we may encounter the partner, or family of the alcoholic, we need someone to talk to the alkie and someone to talk to the family member!

My sponsor was a step and traditions thumper..

He was NOT going to let me get myself in to any grief if he could help it.

He was also NOT going to have the IMPLIED "affiliation" of the AA meetings That I was attending being affiliated with the treatment centres.

Also, to put a little perspective on it, I came back to AA( and stayed BTW) in December 1990 and at that time the US treatment centres were really aggressive in "body bagging" Canadians in to their centres. Our health care system spent nearly 250 million bucks on this before they figured out what was going on.

What the..............how the heck am I supposed to know what someone else is thinking. Half the time I am not even sure if my thoughts are my own or one of the many voices in my head......................Think about that one.....................and are they really your thoughts?

Yeah I think the key word here is honest.

I mean the guys are sat in an aa meetring where they may find a sponsor for free with a real solution. You then pluck them from the metaphorical hands of God to send them to an expensive treatment centre which may or may not help.

So how much money is lack of sleep worth?

I never went to a treatment centre, so it is possible to do this thing without it.
