Whats your take on it?
This is where the acronym MOTR comes from. Those who propagate the MOTR solution just don't see the ugly truth of the situation:
THERE IS MORE TO NOT DRINKING THAN NOT DRINKING.
Not to be rude but it seems all your post is what some one else is not doing instead of what your doing..Just a thought.
I suffered for over 2 years in AA because I was told at my very first meeting to "Stick with the winners".
That is those who stayed sober for 20+ years.
Unfortunately for me, in my area there are no old-timers using the spiritual solution, just "certain hard drinkers" using the fellowship to nurture painful memories of their drinking days to literally scare themselves sober. Their mantra is "We must never forget our last drunk".
It was not until I went into long-term rehab and was exposed to other ways of staying sober that I realized that I was in effect, trying to "manage" my sobriety. I was finally given the 10th step promise as the result of learning the true meaning of humility.
There are many half-truths and misconceptions being propagated in and out of AA and even though I never wanted it, I experienced the 7th ninth step promise that says:
"We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows."
Now I somehow feel obligated to look out for the "Real Alcoholic" in recovery. Even though they are now in the minority they need to hear the full-measures message before they give up or die from misinformation.
If you are one of the MOTR crowd that proclaims it is just a matter of not drinking one-day-at-time than I consider you an "Inglorious Bastard"
Those are some powerful words I still remember when they first sunk in
The point is, that we are willing to grow along spiritual lines.
The First 3 steps are the foundation
(a) That we were alcoholic and could not manage our own lives.
(b) That probably no human power could have relieved our alcoholism.
(c) That God could and would if He were sought.
with out these first 3 step you can't do the rest of the steps
Steps 4 - 9 are the cleansing step
The finding and letting go of old ways
Step 10 -12 are for maintaining our new way of life.
If I'm working the steps it not about not drinking one day at a time
it about learning how to live one day at a time. And yes I feel sorry for some but I don't
consider them Inglorious Bastard.
