In M8 post on Hazleden it came up that this is not an AA site. Given the name of if "Alcoholics Anonymous" then I for one would suggest that it is an AA site. For people who want just a general alcoholism site then there is the main site.
I understand that Lori is not about at the moment but Nicky and Gailly as the admin of the site and anyone else who is admin that i have missed can we have this clarified please.
This is important for me because I am believing this is an AA site and as such is a place where two or more people gather to share the strength, courage and hope so I see this as a "meeting" therefore I am then bounded by the 12 traditions, the 12 concepts and the 6 warranties.
This post is not meant to create controversity but to clarify what the purpose of the site is and whether the intention is for it to be aligned with AA and to follow the AA's guiding principles or is it just a spin off of he main board.

I, too, thought this was an AA approved site but I've come to learn that it's not. It's just the name of this site. Does that make it clear as mud for you? LOL! They do manage to stick more along the lines of Trad 5 here, IMO.
3.) Our membership ought to include all who suffer from alcoholism. Hence we may refuse none who wish to recover. Nor ought A.A. membership ever depend upon money or conformity. Any two or three alcoholics gathered together for sobriety may call themselves an A.A. Group, provided that, as a group, they have no other affiliation.
We do not need permission from New York or anywhere to form a group, whether we use the name Alcoholics Anonymous or not. That vopyright stuff is for published material, not governing whether a group can call themselves AA or not - that would be ridiculous.
The question is likely to be affiliation. Since this group may be regarded as affiliated to DS, there may be issues.
Perhaps someone more experienced than me and knows what they are talking about can shed some more light on this.

In the end I got sick of it and phoned New York. They said that chatrooms can be AA groups and there is even an online intergroup structure. So the same goes for blogs I suppose.
This is an AA group if we call it so and try to abide by the traditions. And No, bigbear, no AA group is obliged to register with anyone.
Ultimately, in my experience, people just argue about the traditions but no-one has the authority to enforce them and very few havce the knowledge and spiritual growth to truly understand them.
OK, well now I'm really confused. Can you tell me what the online intergroup structure is and how it works?

I'm not actually saying that this is an AA group, but I think we can make it so by having a group conscience. I think we kinda are one, cos Sobriety - freedom from alcohol - through the teaching and practice of the Twelve Steps, is the sole purpose of this A.A. group - the question do we call ourselves an AA group or not?
As for me questioning your honesty and airing dirty ;laundry, I'm afraid that is your perspective and reading between the lines and therefore your problem to deal with.
I am just interested to hear what New York have to say about online groups and if this is AA. You have offered no solid reasons why it is not apart from telling me to read the traditions which is what I am doing.
Why don't we all share on a tradition each in separate posts so that we can all gain some experience?

I would love this group to be official AA but it probably can't be due to the medium and format.
There is a lot of debate here whether a site like this can or can not be and AA site for me I believe it can be provided it runs in accordance with the traditions. But for that to happen then I would guess the person/s that set it up would have to agree to move the site in that direction which may not be their desire.
