I don't want this action to have made it worse for the group as a whole and if, by doing this, I have made it worse, I apologise to one and all. I will pm the person concerned and unban that person immediately.

Hopefully this will be the end of the matter. I have no wish to "fight" anyone.

Yes gjm, this is alcoholics anonymous spoken here, not saints anonymous. Who has the right? The group admins have the action, but the right would be the reason for the action. Stalking I can understand, severely abusive behaviour yes, but I havn't seen any of that 'posted' within this group.

If something takes place behind the scenes (PMs etc), then that is not within this group, so it is more for the 'DS Admins' to decide, not the group admins. I would hope the reasons would not be personal or due to a difference of opinion, or even an abuse of power. I think the better question would be 'Why can someone be banned from this group?". CM xxx

A Zen parable:

After winning several archery contests, a young and rather boastful champion challenged a Zen master who was renowned for his skill as an archer. The young man demonstrated remarkable technical proficiency when he hit a distant bull's eye on his first try, and then split that arrow with his second shot.

"There," he said triumphantly to the old man, "see if you can match that!"

Undisturbed, the master did not draw his bow, but rather motioned for the young archer to follow him up the mountain. Curious about the old fellow's intentions, the rookie champion followed him high into the mountain until they reached a deep chasm spanned by a very flimsy and shaky log. Calmly stepping out onto the middle of the unsteady and perilous bridge, the old master picked a far away tree as a target, drew his bow and fired a clean, direct hit.

"Now it is your turn," he said, as he gracefully stepped back onto the safe ground.

Staring frozen with terror into the seemingly bottomless and beckoning abyss, the young man could not force himself to step out onto the log, much less shoot at a target.

"You have great skill with your bow," the master said, sensing his challenger's predicament, "but very limited discipline with the mind that lets loose the shot."

This program works, it really does! God's will, not mine be done.

I am glad to hear that the person's membership is being reinstated because a difference of opinion should not be cause for banning. We are supposed to be sharing our experience, strength and hope with each other. The moment that is threatened is the moment this group ceases to be representative of the true spirit of AA.
