They have to wait until the next session starts. It's like going to school somewhat. In my case, I was in detox for 4 days and the I had to wait two weeks before I could get into the next IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program)

I told my counselor, I would probably come all unglued having to wait that long so she signed me up for several visits with a Counselor plus encouraged me to go to as many aa meetings as I could, which I did and those two things really helped me alot and answered many questions I had on my mind at the time.

Sometimes also, you have to wait until there is space available. There are more addicts choosing recovery, then available space to place them in.

Even detox is hard to get into and the only way I could get in was by going through the Emergency room so I made sure I was good and drunk on that venture to make sure they kept me!

That was 10 years ago. We look back on it now and we laugh but it definitely wasn't funny at the time.

thanks for the info, It is for my son, I just pray he makes it till wed so he can get to the long term facility. This has been going on for 20 + years. I told him Friday he had to do this for himself, and no one could do it for him. I also text him an on line aa meeting link, and reminded him to find meetings while he was waiting. praying....... and so proud of you for where you are.

I can only guess that there is just no other way to manage the wait. How about immersion in a 12 step program for those 7 days. I'm guessing if it's a long term rehab that the person has some prior experience with tretament and recovery?
