I am an alcoholic. If I drink I will die. My, what power, energy, and emotion this simple statement generates in me! But it's really all I need to know for today. Am I willing to stay alive today? Am I willing to stay sober today? Am I willing to ask for help and am I willing to be a help to another suffering alcoholic today? Have I discovered the fatal nature of my situation? What must I do, today, to stay sober?
I would ask myself am I wiling? Would always help to stay in the moment.
Selectively. I'm willing to do whatever is asked by my sponsor. I'm willing to help alcoholics in need, to do service, to share honestly at meetings, to pray, to meditate, to keep my financial house in order. BUT.....I'm really really angry with my husband. The anger seems to be growing in sobriety, not lessening. I used to drink to numb it, and now tha'ts not an option. So I find myself asking myself am I willing to turn *that* over, and to work on being the best wife, friend, etc. and to practice acceptance, kindness, compassion -- not just with other alcoholics, but with my husband? With my parents?
Ugh. I have work to do.
