100% believer on the spiritual condition aspect.
When I'm spiritually fit, I'm balanced and there's not much that bothers me.

I'll never be complacent about being sober, but I do believe that if I do work my program on a daily basis, I won't drink. I'm not terrified every day that a drink is just an arm's length away. I didn't get sober to live and feel like that. And I was fortunate to have had the compulsion removed very early in sobriety.

I feel very very blessed that I am so passionate about AA, I get excited when I am going to a meeting, I love working with others, I know when I need to do a spot check inventory all the way through to a big fat column inventory and get it shared. I actually love the process because it has been proven many many times over to help through the resentments and fears and ups and downs in life - even if those conditions don't change. So, in fact, it's easy. "The unexamined life is not worth living" - Socrates.

I'm a psych patient as well as being an alki and Oh Gawd, over the years do psychiatrists, psychologists, GP's and specialists get sick of hearing me babble on about AA, put I hope I puncture their consciousness. And of course it is another way to consciously keep re-imprinting the importance of sobriety in my own mind.

Totally with you both. Like you Wendy i didnt get sober to live in fear. I believe in the power that I am connected to. I believe that if i remain connnected to it then I will stay sober. To not believe that would be to doubt the power. That is my focus today - maintainance and growth of my spiritual condition. It is not me that keeps me sober - it is the connection to the power that does it.

That's why it's a one day at a time deal for me. Can't change yesterday, can't see tomorrow, but I have today and what I do in this 24 hours will have an impact on the next one. Not to be wasted :}

I have several favorite paragraphs in the Big Book, and this is one of them. When I turn my life and my will over to God each day, put one foot in the front of the other and do the next right thing (which encompasses a lot!), I'm ensured that I not only won't pick up a drink, but I'll have a damn good day!! I am happy to say that I have had very few bad days since getting sober. Probably none if I really think about it. Do bad moods constitute a bad day in the great scheme of things??? LOL I haven't thought of picking up a drink, so they were all good days.

When I become consumed with something, I turn to God and another alcoholic and for the rest of that day all is well.
